“Virginity is not a gift you give to someone else. Sexuality can be a gift you give to yourself.”
The New York Times published today “Does My Virginity Have a Shelf Life,” an article written by Amanda McCracken — a 35-year-old virgin woman who has been saving herself for what she calls Mr. Right. After reading her article all I can think of is how much I want to slap her on the head for so many reasons.
She’s not only lying to herself about why she hasn’t had sex. She has found love and refused to have sex anyways. Instead of saving herself for true love, she has built an invisible yet humongous barrier where she keeps herself apart from establishing a meaningful adult relationship with a partner. Worse than that, she is denying herself of a life full of real love and pleasure on purpose.
Aaaargh. Don’t you wish sometimes you could shake someone out of their craziness?
