Life’s highlights have always been experiences, i.e., events. Even when those experiences are related to objects. Life-changing, good, bad, teaching, quick or once in a lifetime experiences that is. Perhaps there had been times where people chose possessions over experiences, but at the end, when evaluating our lives, it all comes down to how much we experienced in life.

The success and popularity of some objects has everything to do with experiences too. Take the iPhone for example. It’s not just a fancy phone. It’s your assistant, your pocket map, not just a phone but a communications center, your camera, your video camera, etc. It enhances the way you live life and enables you to share those experiences.

Next time you need to decide between an object of desire and a life experience, the decision should be easy. You already know the answer.

Here’s to a life full of adventures!

theeconomist:

Would you rather have a $5,000 watch or a $5,000 trip to Europe? Marc Cenedella of TheLadders.com predicts you’ll choose the trip. Why? “People are spending more and more of their time with experiences, rather than products,” he says in this video from The Economist’s Ideas Economy events series.
